Sediment Transport Modelling (India)
Jomiso developed advanced
sediment transport and deposition models for seven
major river basins in India — including Ramganga, Barak, Narmada,
Cauvery, Kuttiadipuzha, Mangalam, and Peechi. The project aimed to
support erosion management and
reservoir sedimentation planning through data-driven
insights and predictive simulation.
Using hydrological and hydraulic modelling tools,
Jomiso assessed the sediment dynamics under varying climatic and flow
conditions to identify areas prone to high erosion or sediment
deposition. These findings assist in optimizing
reservoir operation policies and enhancing
long-term water storage capacity.
This initiative, funded by the World Bank under the
National Hydrology Project, plays a critical role in
improving catchment management and supporting
sustainable water infrastructure planning across
multiple Indian states.
