GLOF Study at Maneri Dam by Jomiso

GLOF Study – Maneri Dam (India)

Jomiso conducted a detailed Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risk assessment for the Maneri Dam to strengthen dam safety and disaster preparedness in the Himalayan region. The study focused on identifying potentially dangerous glacial lakes, modelling breach scenarios, and evaluating their downstream impacts.

Using a combination of remote sensing, GIS analysis, and hydrodynamic modelling, the team developed realistic GLOF hazard scenarios to guide infrastructure safety and emergency planning. The project emphasized proactive measures to mitigate potential risks associated with climate-induced glacial changes.

The outcomes of this study have provided critical insights to dam authorities and local agencies, enabling improved early warning systems, better disaster management protocols, and enhanced resilience for downstream communities.
